Day In The Life Of A Lead Representative For A Carpenters Union

My Day to Day

My days are filled with supporting our union members. I oversee operations at Carpenter's Local 909, manage construction projects, and provide assistance to members in need. Whether they call for job leads or just need someone to talk to, I'm here to ensure they're taken care of. On-site, I watch skilled journeymen and apprentices transform raw materials into structural components, always keeping the project timeline in check.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

I was born and raised in San Bernardino County, California.

  • 2.

At 16, I became a father and worked hard to support my girlfriend, two kids, and a dog while earning less than $10 an hour at a factory job.

  • 3.

A family friend introduced me to the Carpenters Union, which opened a new door of opportunity for me.

  • 4.

I advanced through the ranks, becoming an apprentice, journeyman, foreman, and eventually a lead representative.

  • 5.

In 2017, I joined the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters as an organizer and became dedicated to creating jobs and benefits for our members.

  • 6.

I am committed to the growth and development of San Bernardino County, working closely with cities and developers to create new opportunities for our members.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

No, we can't give you an opportunity because of your past.

  • How I responded:

Trying to secure an opportunity for myself and find career success was difficult because I couldn't answer no when asked if I've ever been convicted of a felony. Fortunately, the carpenters union gave me a chance. Not only was I able to build a successful career for myself as a carpenter but I'm now also able to help other people like me who also need a helping hand to get off the streets.
