Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Parents:
"You should go into a safe, easy job as soon as you get the offer."
How I responded:
I really wanted a job that I felt passionate about and was excited to wake-up for in the mornings. It took longer to find it and meant I spent a lot of nights and weekends when I was first starting out professionally job hunting, resume writing and networking. But after a few years, I landed a job I really am passionate about and transitioned to something that doesn't necessarily feel like work.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I really wanted to continue my education with a masters degree, so I'm going to school on nights and weekends. That way I don't have to give up my salary and take out too many loans. And I'm lucky that my job pays a little towards my tuition as well.
