Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

Went to college and didn't finish my degree, was able to join the Army.

  • 2.

Got the call to become a part time teller.

  • 3.

Was able to go back to school, but went to school for graphic design.

  • 4.

Always worked part time at the bank, wasn't sure of staying.

  • 5.

Client cried about how I was the only person that actually listened and answered his question.

  • 6.

Realized from that moment, that banking was my forte.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

You're not smart enough, and you shouldn't work at a bank.

  • How I responded:

I came in every single day, focused and determined that I was going to make a difference. I continued to learn and to listen to how my peers did their jobs, so when that job opportunity presented itself, I showed that I can do the work and I was the one they came to when they had a problem.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I came from a middle income family, but I didn't have it easy. I remember the days I would squeeze my feet into my sister's sneakers. I didn't have the cool clothes growing up, but I was fed and had a warm bed to sleep in. I am thankful for that!

  • Most of my friends growing up were killed, placed in jail, or just linger around my old neighborhood. It was always a challenge to be better, but I took it by the horns and faced every obstacle head on.

  • It was a long road, and no one in my family had ever finished their bachelor's degree. It was an honor, but at the same time, I had people who would be negative toward that fact. So I basically removed those negative influences out of my life.
